Week 25

Dear TK parents and families,

As my time here comes to a close, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your continuous support, love, and respect. It has been a pleasure and blessing to serve as your long term sub. I did promise the students that I would visit so you haven't gotten rid of me totally. :)

This week we will be celebrating "Read Across America," in honor of Dr. Seuss' birthday. On Wednesday the students may wear pajamas to school. They must wear regular school socks and shoes. Uniforms are to be worn by students who are not in pjs. There will be guest readers on that day as well as fun activities.

We continue to make great strides in TK. This week we are working on:

  • Lent and our love for God
  • the number 22
  • measurement
  • the letter "Rr"
  • making water green and if it changes the taste
  • sight words: a, I, can, have, see, on, in, and, the, is, at

  • Jesus has many friends
  • #21
  • height & weight
  • letter "Qq"
  • sight word: can

Week 23

Dear TK parents & families,

I hope you had a loving Valentine's Day and enjoyed the long weekend. Thank you for the tokens of affection. Ms. Cuellar and I are flattered. And thank you for a wonderful Valentine's Day party. The students enjoyed all the goodies.

Book order forms went out last week and are due back to me by this Friday, the 19th. If you order online, my class code is GWWYL. Please be sure to place the order by Friday.

To clarify testing for Kindergarten, your children are already enrolled at St. Irenaeus and do not need to test again. The testing is for any child new to the school. A letter of intent for the current students will be going out next week. Please be sure to fill it out and return it to the office.

The children will have a copy of the "Our Father" in their folders. Please use this to help them practice this prayer. The children know most of it, but please use the opportunity of Lent to prayer more with your child.

Things we are working on this week:

  • Lenten actions
  • the number "20"
  • measurements: height and weight
  • the letter "P"
  • Presidents' Day

In God's grace,

Mrs. Dorie Collins

Week 22

Dear TK parents & family,

Gung Hay Fat Choy! Chuc Mung Nam Moi!

Today we celebrated the Lunar New Year. We read books about it, made dragon masks, and watched a dragon dance. Some of the children were a bit frightened, mostly because of the loud drums being right next to us. Sydney shared a Chinese treat with everyone. Overall it was a fun experience.

Tomorrow we will celebrate the 100th day of school as well as Mardi Gras. Please don't forget to have your children bring in their 100 items.

We will also observe Ash Wednesday this week. Deacon Steve will come to the classroom to distribute ashes. We will talk about this special day and what Deacon will be doing as well as we will be giving each student a CRS rice bowl. Please use the bowl to teach your child about alms giving during Lent. They should be brought back to school during Holy Week.

Valentine's Day will be celebrated this Friday, the 12th. Our room moms have our party planned & organized. Please be sure you child brings a valentine for everyone.

There is no school next Monday, the 15th, in observance of Presidents' Day. Enjoy the holiday weekend.

Even with all these activities, we are still working on our core subjects:

  • number 19
  • letter O
  • sight word "have"
Thank you for the beautiful tokens of appreciation. And as my time here is coming to a close, know each and every one of you will be in my prayers. I know I am very blessed.

In God's grace,

Mrs. Dorie Collins

Week 21

Dear TK parents & families,

Happy Catholic Schools Week! Thank you to those who were able to visit the classroom during Open House. I heard there was a wonderful surprise in the room, Mrs. Paragas and her baby. I apologize again for not being able to attend, but I know many of you had a nice visit.

This week we will be celebrating all those we are blessed to have in our lives and enrich our faith.

  • Tomorrow we will honor community helpers with gift baskets.
  • Wednesday we are celebrating families & volunteers. I hope you will be able to celebrate Mass at 8:30 and stay for breakfast afterwards.
  • Thursday is celebrating students. It is a non-uniform dress day. There is also a fundraiser that evening at John's Incredible Pizza in the Buena Park Mall, from 5:30 to 8:30.
  • Friday is Call to Stewardship-Souper Friday. Everyone is asked to bring a can of soup to donate to the food bank. Students may wear jeans and a sports jersey.
Needless to say there is much in store for the week. All this while learning about...
  • the letter "Nn"
  • number "18"
  • counting by 10s to 100
  • We Love Others
  • Valentine's Day
  • Hearts
  • Love
Next Tuesday will be the 100th day of school. We will commemorate by having each student bring in 100 items. They can range from pennies to conversation hearts. All 100 items need to fit in a bag no bigger than a gallon size plastic bag. I wanted to give you advance notice so you can gather these things by this weekend.

We will celebrate Valentine's Day next Friday, February 12th. Party information will be coming from Mrs. Garma. If your child is bringing valentines to share, they need to bring them for the whole class. There are 20 students. We don't want anyone to feel left out.

Thank you for all you do.

In God's grace,

Mrs. Dorie Collins
